ISO standards

The electronic identification of pets is standardised internationally by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Two ISO standards were introduced in 1996:

ISO 11784

The ISO 11784 standard describes the information in and structure of the identification number. This standard stipulates that identification numbers must be made up of 15 digits.

ISO 11785

The ISO 11785 standard describes the technical aspects of the communication between the transponder and the reader.
